The Known God and the Spirit of Truth: A Path to Consecration

The Known God and the Spirit of Truth: A Path to Consecration

May 12, 2026 | Reflections

May 13, 2026 | The 109th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima

Today is a day of profound spiritual alignment. As we navigate the readings of the Wednesday of the Sixth Week of Easter, we find ourselves at the feet of Our Lady on Her feast day, continuing the second day of our 33-Day Consecration to Jesus through Mary. The themes of the “Unknown God,” the guiding Spirit, and the maternal call to conversion weave together a roadmap for the soul.

1. The Liturgy of the Word: From Ignorance to Truth

The First Reading: Acts 17:15, 22 – 18:1

In the Areopagus, St. Paul speaks to the Athenians about the “Unknown God.” He reveals that the Creator is not distant or trapped in stone, but is the one in whom “we live, and move, and exist.” Paul challenges us to move beyond vague religiosity into a personal relationship with the Risen Christ.

The Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 148

“Heaven and earth are filled with your glory.” This Psalm is a universal call to worship. From the heights of the heavens to the “young men and maidens,” all creation is urged to praise the Lord. It reminds us that God is “close” to His people, He is the God Paul proclaimed, who is never far from any of us.

The Gospel: John 16:12-15

Jesus promises the Spirit of Truth. He acknowledges our human limitations: “I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you now.” The Holy Spirit serves as the bridge, unfolding the “complete truth” and glorifying Christ by sharing what belongs to the Father.

2. Connections to the Diary of St. Faustina

St. Faustina’s life was a testament to the “Spirit of Truth” leading a soul into the depths of God’s mystery. Like the Athenians, we often seek God in the dark; Faustina shows us how to find Him in the light of Mercy.

  • On the Indwelling of God: Echoing Paul’s message that God is not in shrines of stone, Faustina wrote:

“I find God in my own heart… When I retire into my inner self, I find there the living God who lives in me.” (Diary, 1191)

  • On the Guidance of the Spirit: Regarding the “many things” Jesus has to say, Faustina experienced the Spirit unfolding the truth of Divine Mercy:

“O Holy Spirit, Spirit of Truth and Light, dwell in my soul… and lead me to the knowledge of Jesus.” (Diary, 1411)

3. Our Lady of Fatima: The 109th Anniversary

On May 13, 1917, the “Unknown God” made Himself known through the Queen of Heaven. Mary’s message at Fatima is the practical application of today’s Gospel call to “repent” because a day of judgment is fixed.

  • The Call to Truth: Just as the Spirit leads us to truth, Mary at Fatima revealed the truth of the state of the world and the necessity of the Rosary and penance.

  • The Promise of Victory: Mary said, “In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.” This mirrors the Gospel’s promise that the Spirit will “tell you of the things to come,” giving us hope in Christ’s ultimate glory.

4. Day 2 of the 33-Day Consecration

Today, as we focus on “Knowledge of the World,” we examine the “idols” we have set up in our own “Areopagus”, the distractions that keep us from the True God.

Meditation Example

Sit in silence and ask the Spirit of Truth to reveal one area where you are “living and moving” apart from God. Are you seeking fulfillment in the “gold, silver, or stone” of modern achievements? Ask Our Mother in Heaven to take your hand and lead you away from these shrines of human hands and toward the living temple of Her Son’s Heart.

Practice for Today

Offer your Rosary specifically for the conversion of those who do not yet know the “Unknown God,” asking that the Spirit of Truth may open their hearts as He did for Dionysius and Damaris.

5. Prayer of Thanksgiving to God the Father

O Heavenly Father, Creator of all that is seen and unseen,

I thank You today for being a God who is near. Thank You for the gift of life and breath, and for the grace of existing within Your love. I praise You for the Spirit of Truth, who patiently unfolds the mysteries of Your Kingdom when my heart is overwhelmed.

Thank You, Father, for the gift of Your Mother, the Lady of the Rosary, who on this day brought a message of hope and a call to return to You. Thank You for the opportunity to consecrate my life to Jesus through her hands. May my life be a “Psalm 148,” reflecting Your glory and drawing others to the truth that sets us free.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
